We worked with children, young people, families and those working in SEND to co-produce our pledge. We identified six key values and behaviours that are important to be able to build trust and overcome the difficulties that currently exist within our system.
The SEND pledge explains these values and asks that every practitioner adopts these across our local area.
Be honest
What this should feel like for you
I am told the truth.
Things are explained clearly in a way I understand.
I understand why things are happening and what will happen next.
I can ask questions and say if I don’t agree.
Show you we care
What this should feel like for you
I feel listened to and understood.
People care about what matters to me.
I feel people know and understand me.
I get the help I need to achieve my goals.
Be thoughtful
What this should feel like for you
People understand that my needs may be different.
People take time to understand me before helping me.
Support is shaped around what works best for me.
I don’t have to keep repeating my story.
Be fair
What this should feel like for you
I am treated with respect and without judgement.
I understand how decisions are made.
I feel involved and have a say in my support.
I get clear answers to my questions.
Be kind
What this should feel like for you
I am treated with kindness and compassion.
People are patient and understanding.
I feel valued and respected.
People take time to help when things are difficult.
