The SEND Pledge was shaped by children and young people whose creativity, experiences and ideas helped bring the six pledges to life. Each icon began as a young person’s original drawing, inspired by what the pledge means to them.

Betty’s design reflects the importance of telling the truth and being open with one another. For Betty, honesty helps build trust, strengthens relationships and keeps everyone happy.
“Being honest is not telling porky pies. I love the six promises and I would never tell fibs. The adults who support me are all honest and I like this because it keeps everyone happy.”

Maisie’s drawing was inspired by the support she receives from her Teaching Assistant. The image represents feeling cared for, understood and supported when help is needed.

Maddie’s design represents the small things that can make a big difference. She explained that being thoughtful is about remembering things that matter to someone and showing that they are important to you.

Dylan’s design features a set of scales, representing equality and fairness. To Dylan, being fair means treating others how you would like to be treated and making sure everyone has the same opportunities, respect and consideration.
“My mind immediately went to scales because they have the same weight on both sides. Treat others how you’d like to be treated, share and be kind.”

Jay chose to draw one person with their arm around another to represent kindness, support and connection. Drawing on his own experiences, Jay wanted to show that kindness is about letting people know they matter and being there for one another when they need help.
