TorbayDAS

We are excited to introduce Torbay Young Person’s Drug and Alcohol Service designed specifically for providing treatment to those under 18 years of age who live in Torbay. The aim of the service is to provide accessible, confidential, and effective support for those facing challenges related to substance use. Our service is open to referrals for all young people who are struggling with drugs or alcohol, as well as their families, carers, and professionals seeking guidance.

Why This Service Matters

Substance use can have a significant impact on young people’s health, wellbeing, education, and relationships. Early intervention and tailored support are crucial in helping young people overcome these challenges and build a positive future. Our service is committed to offering a safe space where young people can talk openly, receive expert advice, and access the help they need.

What the Service Offers

Our comprehensive treatment service includes:

  • Confidential Assessments: Every young person who is ready for treatment receives a private, non-judgmental assessment to understand their unique needs.
  • Personalised Treatment Plans: We work with young people to develop a tailored plan, setting achievable goals and identifying the best ways to reduce harm and support recovery.
  • One-to-One Interventions: Young people can access regular sessions with trained professionals who specialise in youth substance misuse.
  • Family Support: We offer guidance and resources for families and carers, recognising the important role they play in recovery.
  • COMING in January 2026!
  • Education and Prevention: Workshops and outreach programmes are available for schools, colleges, and community groups to raise awareness and prevent problematic substance use.
  • Group Programmes: Peer support groups provide a sense of community and shared experience, helping young people realise they are not alone.

Meet the Team

Benn Carey
Maisie Bithell

‘I have always had a primary and fundamental interest in the well-being of other humans. My inquisitive nature to explore life has led me to live and work all over the world, gaining extensive experience of teaching and coaching young people. Due to the occasionally baffling nature of our reality, I have my own experience of addiction and through this I am uniquely aware of the destructive nature of dependency and more importantly, the miraculous self-transformation involved in recovery. As a result of this, I have dedicated my life to being of service to others in guiding and supporting personal empowerment and transformation in people who may require it’.

Hello, my name is Maisie, I grew up in Torbay but spent the last 7 years in Sheffield, completing my degree in media studies and then working with adults with drug and alcohol issues. I am very passionate about harm reduction and education; in my previous role I enjoyed training hundreds of people around Sheffield on how to safely carry and use naloxone in emergency situations.

I want young people to be able to make their own informed and safe decisions, and my goal is to create a safe space where young people don’t feel ashamed about their substance use.

In my personal time I organise music events with my friends, love going swimming in the sea and hunting for bargains in charity shops!
