Youth workers seek to work with young people to promote their social and personal development and to encourage young people to have their own voice in their communities and within our society. Youth work is about young people being involved in their own active decision making, which starts with making a choice as to whether to engage with the youth work process itself. It is entirely voluntary.

Youth workers seek to build trust and to offer safe spaces for young people to explore their own identity, make informed choices, build resilience, and have fun! Torbay Youth Service utilises the National Youth Agency youth work curriculum in our work with young people as part of our informal education processes.
Our targeted youth work offer – by referral only through Family Help
Torbay Youth Service has a largely targeted youth work offer, which means it is targeted to the needs of young people who may welcome some youth work support on a 1 to 1 basis or to have a youth worker arrange to visit them to discuss what groups and activities may be on offer in Torbay.
Please contact us with any queries and we will direct you to the relevant youth work team member by emailing us at youthservice@torbay.gov.uk or call us and leave a message for the Youth Service team during office hours on 01803 208100.

We are excited to announce we are holding a Fair Futures Festival on 9th June 2026
Are you thinking about what comes next? Turning 16 or 18 can feel like a big step — school changes, support changes, and it’s not always clear what your options are. You’re not alone in feeling that way.
That’s exactly why we’ve created the Fair Futures Festival.
🔎 What’s it all about?
This is a free, drop-in event for young people in Torbay who want to explore their future and figure out their next steps. Whether you already have a plan or no idea where to start, this event is for you.
You’ll find everything in one place — real people, real opportunities, and real support.
💬 What can you do there?
Chat to people about jobs, courses, apprenticeships, and training
Find out about support for mental health, housing, and wellbeing
Discover new opportunities you might not have thought about
Ask questions in a relaxed, friendly space (no pressure!)
Meet others who are figuring things out just like you
🚀 Why come along?
Get ideas for your future
Build your confidence
Make useful connections
Find support that actually works for you
Take your next step — whatever that looks like
🤝 Who will be there?

Apprenticeship and careers services
Youth and community organisations
Health and wellbeing support services
Housing and advice teams
🌈 Your future, your way
This event is all about helping you feel more prepared, more confident, and more in control of what comes next.
Booking your time slot – when are you planning to attend? You are welcome to stay as long as you like – but knowing what time you are likely to arrive helps us to plan a warm welcome.
Between 12 and 1pm – this session is going to be a quiet session. So, if you prefer quieter environments, this is a good slot for you.
1pm – until you’re ready to leave
