Taleblazers Alternative Education Programmes

Taleblazers is a Community Interest Company that celebrates the folk stories of South Devon and Dartmoor and works with young people to change their own life stories. Our ethos is ‘change the story, change the world’ and we run a number of projects and programmes primarily focused at young people.

Our 1-1 programmes are usually outdoor-based and student centred, each programme is tailored to individual students’ needs. We spend time exploring south Devon and Dartmoor, walking the moors and woods or discovering wild places around the coast. Our experience is that exposure to these environments can have a transformative effect on the young person. Students working with us long-term will usually achieve a recognised award to demonstrate their engagement and achievement.

We also run small group programmes with a high staff-student ratio to allow young people to work on social development in a safe, nurturing environment. Currently we are running programmes in:

  • Arts (leading to Arts Award)
  • Community Gardening
  • Bushcraft

Please contact Rich Blagden for more details about any of our programmes.

More widely, Taleblazers actively work to promote folklore, storytelling and heritage particularly in the south Devon and Dartmoor areas. We are involved in a small number of community projects and we offer in-school workshops based around heritage, storytelling/performance and natural history. Please see our website, blog, podcast or social media for more information.

Local Offer

Description: Taleblazers run a range of alternative education programmes for young people who need additional support. Our programmes are individually tailored and student-centred, and are ideal for young people with SEN/SEMH, who are struggling at school, at risk of exclusion, children in need and for emergency interventions. We are trauma informed and work particularly well with young people who have experienced trauma and may have an insecure attachment style.

Our programmes are run by qualified teaching staff who are experienced in working with young people with additional needs in formal and informal educational contexts. Our aim is not just to provide an intervention but also to support learning progress and development. Successful completion of our programmes will usually lead to an external award and our students have been successful in achieving Arts Award, John Muir Award and National Navigation Award.
