Sirona provides therapeutic horsemanship, equine-assisted therapy and animal-assisted interventions to young people and adults with additional support needs. This can include mental health, learning disability, young offenders, young carers, young people with emotional/behavioural difficulties and with those educational challenges.
Through horse based activities participants learn about horse behaviour/ psychology and horse management. This can bring increased levels of self-awareness through learning how to control and manage their own behaviours in order to have positive relationships with the horses. Therapeutic horsemanship also leads to gains in self confidence and self esteem together with learning new skills leading to increased opportunities in education and training. Physical and mental health benefits are provided by working with horses and other animals, together with increased well-being from being outdoors in nature.
Educational opportunities can be incorporated in sessions such as horse based projects based around numeracy and literacy. Accredited qualifications are offered: The City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in horse care and C&G Level 1 Diploma in Animal Care in partnership with Bicton College, which are offered for young people 14yrs + who struggle in traditional school environment or more suited to a vocational course. We also run a non-accredited course – Changing Lives through Horses programme in partnership with The British Horse Society as an ideal foundation course for young people who may be interested in horse care as a career, and are not yet ready for the Level 1 accredited course.
*Small group Nature-based Forest School type sessions to be offered from September 2022. Please get in touch for more details.
