Information and advice on language development and what to expect around the age of 13

Remember, not all children develop at the same rate but during this time I will:

  • Understand instructions that don’t follow the same order as words in the sentence
  • Use language to try to persuade people
  • Use inference
  • Understand and explain double meanings
  • Define words
  • Use more complex vocabulary
  • Talk in longer sentences (7-12 words)
  • Give detailed explanations
  • Create more complex stories
  • Use slang and sarcasm
